Faith & Doubt:
An On-going Discussion

Has anyone ever asked you if you believe in the Buddha, God, enlightenment or reincarnation? I always find these questions challenging. Spirituality is a living experience for me, so the idea of merely believing undermines something I highly value: my ability to discern and my passion to discover life in a dynamic way.

Once we hold tightly to beliefs we are subject to doubt. I notice I hold on to beliefs because I am afraid of falling into a meaningless or doubtful state…but then I have doubts when my beliefs fall apart. The Buddha’s Middle Way provides a way of being beyond beliefs and doubts. It challenges us to stay open in a world that is dynamic, changing and open to interpretation…and to ask the question:
“What serves?”
